PROVOKE GOD NOT TO ANGER

Read Deuteronomy 9:19-22

MEMORISE: O Lord, correct me, but with justice; not in Your anger, lest You bring me to nothing (Jeremiah 10:24)

EXPOSITION
What we should be praying for is to enjoy goodness and loving-kindness of God in our lives. No one can experience God's anger and still remains the same. In most occasions, God's wrath goes with calamity and scars. David understood God's character, and said, 'When with rebukes You correct man of iniquity, You make his beauty melt away like a moth; surely every man is vapor' (Psa. 39:11). This is no wonder David prayed the prayer everyone of us should be praying every time, with caution: 'O Lord, do not rebuke me in Your anger, nor chasten me in Your hot displeasure' (Psa. 6:1; 38:1).

We should do away with anything that can provoke God to anger. God loved Israel and He always took good care of them as the apple of His eyes. Nevertheless, whenever they provoked Him to anger, He chastened them. Today, we should stop abusing the grace we have in Christ by living our lives carelessly. God still chastens any of His children who takes Him for granted.

Anything that is not of faith provokes God to anger (Rom. 14:23). 'Also at Taberah and Massah and Kibroth Hattaavah you provoked the Lord to wrath (Deut. 9:22). Israel murmured against God without a cause in Taberah, and in Massah, they tested God for lack of water. In Kibroth Hattaavah, they tested God in their heart by asking for the food of their fancy. Their lack of faith pitched them against God.

Learn to develop the measure of faith to walk with God, to obey and keep His commandments, in order not to provoke Him to anger.

PRAYER POINTS
1. Cause me, O Lord, not to provoke You to anger with my lifestyle.
2. Lord, help me to maintain godliness and contentment, in order not to provoke You to anger.
3. Lord, help Your Church and save us from the attitudes that cause You to be angry with us, so that the ungodly would not be given chance to profane Your name on our account.
