NEGLIGENCE ISN’T A GIFT

Read: 1 Timothy 4:14-16

MEMORISE: Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership (1 Timothy 4:14).

EXPOSITION
The Bible reading today is loaded with several charges by Paul to Timothy, geared towards equipping him to prove himself before all men; to save him and his listeners. These charges are timeless, because today, we also need them if we must become what God purposed for our lives. God’s plan for us is of good, to give us an expected end. A glorious one at that, but we have to do our bit, just as Timothy was charged to do by Paul. Let us look at some of them briefly and see how to key them into our lives;
Do not neglect the gift that is in you (v. 14). Timothy, like we, had a gift that must not be neglect. We must not use our gifts for selfish gains, but for the Church to benefit from.

Meditate upon these things* (v. 15a): He was charged to meditate on the Words, so that his profits would appear to all.
Take heed to yourself (v. 16a) Self-examination: Are you still in the faith? Are you stagnant or growing? How is your prayer and devotional life?
…to the doctrine. Continue in them (v. 16b) the instructions, the charges, directives that come from the scripture or reveal to us as we study and meditate upon them.

The result of the above is that our progress shall be seen by all. W would save both ourselves and those hearing us. We would not need to personally announce to the world, the grace of God upon us, because that would amount to pride-blowing, one’s own trumpet. That grace would announce itself to all as it brings glory to God through us, being upon us. That should be desired above all.

PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, help me to fulfil Your purpose for my life.
2. O Lord, grant me the grace to meditate and feed on Your Word unto Your glory.
3. O Lord, may Your glory be released upon my life to fulfil my mission on earth.
